February 2011
February needs a bit of humour to get through...
Warren:
"I’m having some dental work done at the moment. It is slightly worse than this (PT session)...no, I lied, the dentistry is better.”
Ray:
“Carbs make me sleepy after lunch, so I thought I’d try an Atkins lunch – big bag of pork scratchings should do the trick, right?”
Also, I should have got a video for You-Tube for:
How not to do Paul Kav’s latest ViPR move (starring Tara and Helen from Saturday Bootcamp)
And
Adam doing his back stretches hanging freestyle by his feet from the double cable with a 20kg kettlebell in each hand. Don’t try this at home, children.
Congratulations to Dan who is looking hot, (and even hotter after a PT with Paul Kav)
– the effort is paying off without a doubt.
And congratulations to Sarah and Martin on the birth of Baby Charlotte, who is coping well with being woken up every 3 hours by her father.
Please let us know whether you are doing the Paddock Wood Half-Marathon on 27th March 2011, there are quite a few doing it and it is always good to have someone to run with.
Also cyclists, anyone who would like to join in the Horsmonden cycle ride for Childline, please let me know, I will try and organise you together as well!
My weight management course is under way, but I am really sorry, I just don’t have the time to take any more on yet. Please let us know if you are interested, I will be doing more in the future.
Keep cheerful, Spring can’t be long now... Jenny

Crazy stuff
"It has been calculated that we are now up to 500-800 kcals per day less active than we were only 20 years ago (Prentice 2001). This is the equivalent, for the average person of running a marathon every week" or a 4 mile run, 7 days a week.
"Kenny, a scientist at Scripps Research's Florida campus, said that the study confirms the "addictive" properties of junk food...The scientists fed rats a diet modelled on the type that contributes to human obesity: easy-to-obtain ...foods like sausage, bacon and cheesecake. "When we removed the junk food and tried to put them on a nutritious diet - what we called the 'salad bar option' - they simply refused to eat...they basically starved themselves for two weeks after they were cut off from junk food."
It makes me aware just how much needs to be done in order to combat this huge problem - and it already makes me more aware of how little is being done politically to help. We try to protect our kids from drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, what about junk non-food?
